Disney+ Officially Makes Netflix's Defenderverse Part Of The MCU Timeline
That did not take long
A few days ago, we brought you the news that Marvel Studios executive producer Brad Winderbaum had stated that Netflix’s Daredevil was part of the “Sacred Timeline” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe while he was promoting their new series, Echo.
“I can say that up until this point, we've been a little bit cagey about what's Sacred Timeline, what's not Sacred Timeline.” Said Winderbaum to Screen Rant. “That was born of, frankly, a period at the studio where we were like, "We have to stick the landing with the vendors." It was another part of the company developing the Netflix stuff. We were aware of what they were doing, they were aware of what we were doing, but there was a lot to balance anyway.
But now that some time has passed; now that we see actually how well integrated the stories are, I think that I personally, Brad Winderbaum, would be confident in saying it is part of the Sacred Timeline.”
But just a few hours after Echo premiered on Disney+ and Hulu, we have a second confirmation, as Disney+ has added each of the shows from Netflix's Marvel Universe also known as “The Defenderverse” to the MCU's "Timeline Order" section on the streamer.
Now you can see exactly when shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones. Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher take place chronologically in the larger MCU.
After binging all five episode of Echo, I can see why they are rushing to unite the franchises. I will not spoil Marvel’s latest series, but I will say it is truly astounding and worthy to watch.
With the MCU as we know it in disarray after courting controversies and releasing a few box office bombs, many of us are now more interested in street-level heroes with personal stories in which the stakes are far more interesting than a cosmic threat.
We sincerely hope Echo succeed, not only because it truly deserves it, but also because it will open the door to more grounded and gritty Marvel stories, the first of which is the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, which we are sure will keep the ball rolling on the great storytelling and sheer brutality that the new Marvel banner, Marvel Spotlight promises to be.
